RE: 16 oz Propane Fuel Bottle - full - can't use

You could probably go to a hardware store, pick up a small 3 cornered file and file the threads enough to use it.

RE: Tow Vehicle Question

:B If you pay attention to the "weight police', you'll end up with a 10' pop-up with your truck. Get the RV that suits YOU. We pull a 36' Montana with our '05 Dodge 2500 3/4 ton CTD. And it isn't overloaded.

RE: Gen Use in W-M or Flying J Quick Overnighter?

It seems to me that most Wal Marts are private property and as such, you'd be about as welcome as you would be parked in my drive with a noise maker running. In 5 years we've parked at a Wal Mart 1 time and that was in Nogales, AZ comming from Mexico to find a currency exchange. 1 hour and we were gone.

RE: would you run retreads?

:D Depends on who is doing the capping. Bandag caps are almost as good as new and have nearly the same warranty. And the restriction on "no caps on front axle" pertains to commercial (DOT regulated) units only. Otherwise you can put rubber bands on if you want. :C

RE: Crashing your RV or rather, DON"T!!!

An old rule said you go down a hill in the same gear you went up. That worked on stick shift vehicles. It really still does. If you have a retarder you can usually go a gear or two higher. You tell that to someone whose never driven a stick shift, they'll probably tell you "I went up the hill in 'drive'". Needless to say, they weren't tuned to the tranny that was probably in low or second gear and that's the gear they should have started down in. If the engine held it good in that gear, maybe go up ONE gear. And shutting off the engine on a runaway will generally not stop the vehicle. It WILL give the added benefit of not having any power steering AND no brakes.:S

RE: Double Any Vehicle's MPG!

:h Now let me get this right, this contraption will double my mileage. There is another device out there that will me 25% better mileage. It seems if I can get several of these things that are "GAURANTEED" to increase mileage, I'd soon need to hang a bucket from my fill pipe om the truck 'cause it'd be MAKING fuel!!:B

RE: Sold My 5th Wheel today, Diesel to High and Truck is next

:) The initial cost of the camper and truck was the big thing for us. Our RV was paid for when we pulled it off the lot. The truck was paid for when I drove it out the door. Our expense is campgrounds and fuel. We eat regardless of where we are. We are leaving here about the 15th for about 6 to 8 weeks. First to CA then to Vancouver Island, thence across Canada to where my Sis is in Ontario, then home. Counting fuel, eats, rv parks etc., it shouldn't cost much more than $100 a day for 6 or 8 weeks. :C

RE: Sold My 5th Wheel today, Diesel to High and Truck is next

:B The cost of fuel isn't really changing our life style. We do not pack the rv for week-end trips. When we bring it home and pack, it will be a 6 to 8 week long trip. Anything under 2 or 3 hundred miles, we throw a couple bags in the car and go that way. Flying is pretty well out of the question. From where we live, Midway or O'Hare are our choices and with artificial joints and screws in my body, it's not worth the hassle. :W

:B I am so damn glad to know my 3/4 ton won't pull my 36' 5er with the 2500 lb. pin weight and 18,500 GVW. Of course, that's according to the "experts" on here. :C It has been in 47 states; Form Prince Edward Island to Mazatlan, Mexico. From Vancouver, BC to Miami with out problem for over 50,000 miles on two 3/4 ton pick ups.

RE: Gas engines on a diesel chassie?

I really get a laugh out of some of the "experts" on here. Air brakes on a gasoline powered vehicle??? I started truck driving in the early '50s. We had International (now Navistar)450 Cu. in. gas and we had air brakes. Also had vacuum brakes. Some of the early tractors and trailers had air and vacuum both so either tractor could pull either trailer. Bendix and Westinghouse both made air compressors for trucks. As for the V-12 Detroit engine some body mentioned, it had 852 cu. in. 2 6V71 engines mated. On Detroits, the last two digits denoted cubic inch displacement each cylinder. 6-71 6cyls, inline configuration. 8V71= 8 cyl, V configuration, 71cu. in. 6V92 6cyl., 92 cu. in. When they came out with the 92s they put a turbo charger over the Roots type blower.

RE: Crashing your RV or rather, DON"T!!!

All the safety features in the world won't save a driver from his own stupidity. There are drivers out there that could kill themselves in an Abrams tank! Gives credence to the old adage "You can go down a lot of hills too slowly; You'll only go down one too fast".

RE: Chevy 2500HD Ride Quality

:) If it's a descent ride you want, forget the 4 wheel drive and get a long bed. We've been pulling first a 34' 5th wheel and now a 36' 5th wheel since 2003 and have seen no need for 4WD. There has been a couple times that had I not had limited slip differential, I'd have been sruck. We've been from Prince Edward Island, Canada to Mazatlan, Mex. From Vancouver, B. C. to Miami and 47 states in all. If it's macho you want, get the 4WD with the cute little "4WD Off Road" decals on it. I'm 77 years old and don't need MACHO. By the way, I still have my class "A" CDL with all endorsements and a valid DOT physical. :C

If time is not a major concern for you, pick up US rt 2 and take it to St. Ignace, MI then south from there. We ran it from east to west about 3 years ago. really nice.
